Overview

Make yourself more marketable to employers with both Medical Billing and Medical Coding certificates! Medical Billing and Medical Coding are separate positions, however many skills and tasks overlap with one another causing increased job prospects to those who have knowledge in both areas.

As a Medical Billing and Coding professional, you would be responsible for translating patient information into codes and prepare reports needed to be submitted to insurance agencies in order to claim payments. A large part of this job requires keeping files confidential and accurate. To be successful as a Medical Biller or Coder it is important to have analytical skills, be detail oriented, have interpersonal skills and possess technical skills!

Program Outline

The Medical Billing and Coding Program is designed to teach students the necessary skills to be successful in the medical field! The program is broken into the following three sections:

Part I - Medical Terminology and Anatomy

This prerequisite course will provide the groundwork Medical Coders and Billers will need for the medical field. It covers healthcare terminology, body structure, directional terminology, and body systems.

Career Outlook

Medical billing and coding is one of the fastest growing professions in the healthcare sector. Due to medical field advancements, job opportunities are expected to increase by 20 percent, much faster than the average of all other occupations. In addition, many unfilled positions occur due to the shortage of well-qualified professionals.

Job opportunities are mostly found in state, local, or private hospitals. However opportunities can also be found in physician offices, nursing homes, and health care services. Most Medical Coding Billing professionals work full time however they may work nights, or weekends dependent upon the facility they work in. The average income for Medical Billing and Coding professionals is $40,000 per year!
